On January 19, 2012, in his hometown Amsterdam, choreographer and author Rudi van Dantzig passed away.

De Nederlandse Opera, Dutch National Ballet and The Amsterdam Music Theatre will merge into a single foundation, effective 1 January 2013. The three organizations, already closely affiliated for many years, will take the final step towards complete integration of the present companies into a single entity: a national top-notch institution for opera and ballet.

22.12.2011 - On Sunday 18 December 2011, the Dutch National Ballet welcomed its 250,000th visitor to Nutcracker & Mouseking in The Amsterdam Music Theatre. This is an unprecedentedly high number of visitors for the performing arts sector.

08.02.2012 - The Dutch National Ballet has just had a very successful year. The number of paying visitors rose from 81,936 in 2010 to 98,651 in 2011 – an increase of 17%.

The annual Zwaan award for ‘most impressive dance achievement 2011’ goes to Jurgita Dronina, principal dancer with the Dutch National Ballet. She was presented with the award for her role in the Dutch National Ballet’s production of The Sleeping Beauty.

Starting with the 50-year jubilee season, Marijn Rademaker - currently principal with the Stuttgarter Ballet - will be a regular guest principal with the Dutch National Ballet. Marijn will dance in the Gala - 50 jaar Dutch National Ballet on September 13.
