Located in the centre of Amsterdam on the river Amstel, The Amsterdam Music Theatre seats 1600 and is one of the most prominent large theatres in Europe. It is home not only to the Dutch National Ballet but also to De Nederlandse Opera. Both companies have their own rehearsal studios there, and it is where they give nearly all their premieres. The comfortable seats, good sightlines and spacious foyers with excellent refreshment bars are the most striking facilities of The Amsterdam Music Theatre.
Prior to each performance by the Dutch National Ballet in The Amsterdam Music Theatre or elsewhere, there is an introduction to the performance, which begin 45 minutes before curtain-up. The foyers of The Amsterdam Music Theatre are open one hour before curtain-up. The doors to the auditorium open half an hour before curtain-up.
Besides the performances by the resident companies De Nederlandse Opera and the Dutch National Ballet, The Amsterdam Music Theatre also has its own programme of top-quality productions in the fields of dance, ballet, opera and music theatre.
The Amsterdam Music Theatre is fully equipped to provide an unforgettable and festive evening out. The excellent audience facilities can also be used for corporate events.
What goes on behind that enormous red curtain? Where and how are all those beautiful costumes made? A guided tour of The Amsterdam Music Theatre opens doors that remain closed to others. You will visit the impressive backstage area and the costume department, and get a glimpse of the rehearsal studios.
There is a guided tour every Saturday at 12.00. Tickets cost € 6 (€ 5 for CJP, CKV and Stadspas holders, 65+ and students).

how to get there
The Amsterdam Music Theatre is located at Amstel 3, in the heart of Amsterdam. It is easily reached by public transport. Amsterdam Central station and Amsterdam Amstel station can be reached directly or by changing train from most stations in the Netherlands. From either station, you can take metro lines 53 and 54 or express tram 51 to Waterlooplein metro station. If you are coming to The Amsterdam Music Theatre by tram, you can take tram 9 (from Central Station) or tram 14. They both stop right outside The Amsterdam Music Theatre. NB: Please be aware that from 2 April to 29 June, trams 9 and 14 will take alternative routes, and no trams will go past the Waterlooplein for a few months, due to maintenance work on the Amstelstraat.
The nearest taxi ranks are next to The Amsterdam Music Theatre on the corner of the Waterlooplein or a three-minute walk away on the Rembrandtplein.

From the A10 ring road, take exit S-112 or S-116, in the direction of ‘Amsterdam Centrum’. Follow the signs for ‘P Muziektheater’ and you will get to The Amsterdam Music Theatre, where you can park in the parking garage right under the theatre, or at one of the other parking garages:
Parking in the vicinity of the theatre is extremely limited, especially in the evenings. The ‘Muziektheater’ parking garage is not exclusively for the use of our visitors. On performance evenings, it can get very busy at the entrance to this parking garage. There are three other parking garages situated a couple of minutes’ walk away from our theatre: ‘Waterlooplein’ on Valkenburgerstraat (see worry-free parking, below, for information about reserved parking spaces), 'The Bank' on Amstelstraat (near Rembrandt Square) and ‘Markenhoven’ on Anne Frankstraat.
Another option is to park your car on the outskirts of the city (for example at the Transferium at the Amsterdam Arena) and then travel to The Amsterdam Music Theatre by taxi or public transport.
For more information about parking at Transferium, phone +31 (0)20 - 400 17 21
