Although still in the early days of his career, the Canadian dancer Matthew Golding (Regina) has already received several awards and nominations. Last October, he was awarded the ‘Zwaan’ for Most Impressive Dance Achievement by the VSCD for his performance in Short Time Together by Paul Lightfoot and Sol León. Before that, he won the Youth America Grand Prix and was awarded the Alexandra Radius Prize in 2011. In the same year, he was nominated for a ‘Zwaan’ (for his performance in Alexei Ratmansky’s Don Quichotte). Matthew trained at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, the Kirov Academy in Washington D.C. and the Royal Ballet School in London. After his training, he first danced with the Studio Company of American Ballet Theatre and then went on to dance with the main company for three years. In 2008 and 2009, he toured Spain with the Corella Ballet, following which he joined the Dutch National Ballet as a soloist. He was promoted from soloist to principal in September 2010, following his spectacular performance in Don Quichotte. This spring, Matthew will be performing as a guest artist with The Royal Ballet and English National Ballet.
