The Finnish dancer Anu Viheriäranta (Helsinki) trained at the Helsinki Dance Institute and the Royal Ballet School in London. After graduating, she joined the Finnish National Ballet, where she became acquainted with the work of Rudi van Dantzig and Toer van Schayk, and their respective productions of Swan Lake and Nutcracker & Mouse King. This prompted her to continue her career in the Netherlands, joining the Dutch National Ballet in 2005. In 1998, Anu won the Prix d’Espoir at one of the most important ballet competitions for young talent, the Prix de Lausanne. In 2010, the year in which she was promoted to principal, she was awarded the Alexandra Radius Prize, and the magazine Dance Europe nominated her ‘outstanding dancer of the year 2010’ for her performance in David Dawson’s Reverence.
