The American dancer Casey Herd (Salt Lake City, Utah) has been a principal with the Dutch National Ballet since 2008, after previously guesting with the company. Casey trained at the Ballet West Academy in his hometown and at the Kirov Academy in Washington D.C. Before coming to the Netherlands, he danced with American Ballet Theatre and Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, where he became one of the most prominent dancers of the company. In 2011, the leading dance magazine Dance Europe placed Casey nineteenth in their top 100 international dancers who performed outstandingly.
Casey has danced in works by various choreographers, such as William Forsythe, Nacho Duato, Twyla Tharp, Glen Tetley and Jerome Robbins. His repertoire includes principal roles in The Sleeping Beauty, Le Corsaire, Paquita, Don Quichotte, Romeo and Juliet and Swan Lake. In 2007, Casey appeared with the Dutch National Ballet as a guest artist in the role of the prince in The Sleeping Beauty.
