During his training at the State School for Choreography in his hometown, Alexander Zhembrovskyy (Kiev, Ukraine) was already dreaming of a career in the West, as he longed for a greater variety of ballet repertoire and styles. He has been with the Dutch National Ballet as a soloist since 2005. Before joining the company, he danced with the National Theatre for Opera and Ballet in Ukraine, the Classical Ballet Theatre in St. Petersburg, the Bayerisches Staatsballett in Germany and the National Theatre for Opera and Ballet in Slovenia. The magazine Dance Europe nominated him as ‘outstanding dancer of the year 2010’ for his performance in Hans van Manen’s Sarcasmen. Since 2010, Alexander has combined his work with the Dutch National Ballet with running his own ballet and dance school in Amsterdam.
