Last season, the American dancer Megan Zimny Gray (Harlingen, South Texas) made a remarkable debut in Giselle. Following her last performance in Göteborg, Sweden, artistic director Ted Brandsen announced her promotion to soloist. At the age of four, Megan was sent to ballet classes because she was ‘weak and skinny’. She went on to train at the Harid Conservatory in Florida, and was offered a contract at the age of seventeen with Boston Ballet II, where she completed her regular education over the internet. In 2006, she moved up to the main company at Boston Ballet. Four years later, it was time to take a new step. After auditioning in several countries, she decided with ‘heart and gut’ to join the Dutch National Ballet. Megan won bronze at the Helsinki International Ballet Competition, and received a scholarship from the Rudolf Nureyev Education Fellowship.
