
Alan Land (Minnesota, USA) received his education at the National Ballet School in Toronto, Canada. He joined The Dutch National Ballet in 1979, where he became a principal in 1987.
Land has danced the leading roles in Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty and Rudi van Dantzig's Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliette among others. Land is also noted for his performances in choreographies by George Balanchine, Rudi van Dantzig, Hans van Manen, Toer van Schayk and William Forsythe.
As one of the leading performers of the company, Land was awarded in 1990 with the Golden Theatre Prize from the Dutch Association of Theatre Directors.
In 1995 Alan retired as a dancer. He became a member of the artistic staff of the Finnish National Ballet, being associate ballet director. In 2003 he returned to the Dutch National Ballet in the position of balletmaster. He also works as a guest teacher at ballet companies all around the world.
