The Amsterdam Music Theatre celebrates its 25 year jubilee. The Nederlandse Opera and The Dutch national Ballet look back on 25 years of highlights in the Music Theatre. And they look forward: a look at what's coming up in the future through productions created by young director and choreographers, dancers and singers. Inspiration and starting point for 25 productions in various, sometimes surprising locations in Amsterdam. Some highlights:

What happens when you suddenly find yourself in a strange setting? Young creatives, like director Lotte de Beer and comediènne Minou Bosua, give their view on this question. In this up-to-date version of Aïda two worlds come together in a Queeensday partylike setting. With the Chorus of De Nederlandse Opera, together with the ZO! Gospelchoir and ballet dancers of the Dutch National Ballet with dancers from Don't Hit Mama.

A wide array of amateur dance groups will join the classical ballet dancers, and show off their dancing skills. For a finale, the professional cross-over dance company ISH led by Marco Gerris - member of the jury for So You Think You Can Dance - will perform a unique and dynamic show. Especially for this production dj and composer Gerry Arling will create a remix of the music of Louis Andriessen, tailored to the specific dance styles of the various groups. Ernst Meisner, dancer with the Dutch National Ballet, is responsible for the artistic concept of the evening and will choreograph for the various groups.

ringetje – der ring des nibelungen for children

In only 90 minutes, director Lotte de Beer tells the story of Wagners Der Ring des Nibelungen for children. Childrens choir De Kickers and singers from the Chours of The Netherlands Opera take the audience on a voyage of discovery, criss-cross through the stories of the dwarf Alberich and the giants Fasolt and Fafner. The music is performed by members of Holland Symfonia, conducted by Hans Leenders.

leven met een idioot

The Boekmanzaal of the City Hall is the location for an interpretation of Alfred Schnittkes opera Life with an Idiot, created for the celebration weekend by director Floris Visser.
