The annual Zwaan award for ‘most impressive dance achievement 2011’ goes to Jurgita Dronina, principal dancer with the Dutch National Ballet. The Russian-born ballerina was presented with the award for her role in the Dutch National Ballet’s production of The Sleeping Beauty.
‘In The Sleeping Beauty, she approaches the level of perfection’, said the jury. ‘Thanks to her fragile appearance, musicality and refined technique, she is cut out for the role’.
Besides Jurgita, Dutch National Ballet principals Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding also received nominations for the Zwaan 2011.
The Zwaan is awarded each year by the dance jury of the Dutch Association of Theatres and Concert Halls. On Saturday 8 October, at the Dutch Dance Festival in Maastricht, artistic director Ted Brandsen accepted the award on behalf of Dronina, who was performing at a gala in Ukraine that evening.
