On Thursday 17 November, star principals from the Netherlands and abroad will be dancing classical and contemporary works in The Amsterdam Music Theatre. The evening is dedicated to the sixteenth edition of the Ballet Gala. The proceeds from this festive evening, in which all the principals and companies perform for free, will go to the foundation Dansersfonds ’79.

Dansersfonds ’79, founded by ex-dancers Han Ebbelaar and Alexandra Radius, dedicates each edition of the gala to a particular person or company. This year, it is the turn of Ton Wiggers, founder and managing director of the Arnhem dance company Introdans. Ton Wiggers has now been associated with the company for forty years.

“As managing director, Ton Wiggers has earned this accolade, as this is the first time in the history of Dutch dance that the founder of a company is still an active part of his company forty years later” – Han Ebbelaar.

programme

Leading guest artists from The Royal Ballet (London) and Stuttgarter Ballett will be coming over specially to contribute to this important and popular gala. The Dutch part of the programme is given by the Dutch National Ballet, pupils of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague and, of course, Introdans itself. There will also be a special short film by Henk van Dijk. Most of the performances will have live accompaniment from Holland Symfonia, conducted by Ermanno Florio.

goal

The goal of the foundation is to support and encourage dance in general and promising young dancers in particular. The proceeds of this festive benefit gala, in which all the principals and companies perform for free, will go to Dansersfonds ’79. This foundation was set up by ex-dancers Han Ebbelaar and Alexandra Radius, and it forms a great incentive for dance in the Netherlands.
