The Dutch National Ballet poster depicting the 2011-2012 anniversary season photo – a masculine hand pulling on the foot of a ballerina on pointe – has been nominated for the Dutch Theatre Poster Award 2011, presented to the best poster design of the past theatre season.
The organiser, Theater Instituut Nederland (TIN), will announce the winner in the MC Theatre in Amsterdam on 8 November. A cash prize of € 2,500 is part of the Theatre Poster Award.
The nominated poster was created by graphic designer Martin Pyper, who used a specially staged photo by Erwin Olaf, one of the Netherlands’ foremost photographers.
Ten poster designers were nominated for the Dutch Theatre Poster Award 2011. From almost 500 entries, the jury nominated six individual posters and four series. “We decided on a selection of posters that execute ideas with precision, often in black and white or just two colours, and which catch the eye remarkably often through their distinctive typography”, said the jury.
