The Dutch National Ballet is one of the prominent guests at the ninth edition of the annual Cinedans festival. The international dance, film and media festival will take place in Amsterdam in December.

The Dutch National Ballet will be represented at Cinedans by the documentary Hans van Manen creating Without Words, created by Henk van Dijk. The film shows master choreographer Hans van Manen at work on the creation of his ballet Without Words, which the Dutch National Ballet premiered in 2011. In the documentary, we see the master working with four dancers of the Dutch National Ballet: ballerina Igone de Jongh and her three male partners. The film will be shown in De Balie on Saturday 3 December.

Also in De Balie on Saturday 3 December, Cinedans is presenting three films under the title 50 Jaar Het Nationale Ballet. The programme includes a short film about half a century of dance by the Dutch National Ballet, the documentary Rudolf Nureyev, Een Rus in de Polder by director Jellie Dekker, and the documentary Magdalene, or in defence of Beauty. In the latter documentary, director Mathieu Gremillet (second soloist with the Dutch National Ballet) has filmed the ballet of the same name choreographed by his fellow soloist Remi Wörtmeyer.
