Peter Leung, choreographer and coryphee dancer with the Dutch National Ballet, is making a new work for SOUK, a spectacular concert and dance festival. In the 2012 edition, stars of the Arab world will share the stage with the symphony orchestra Holland Symfonia, dancers from the Dutch National Ballet and other Dutch artists.
For SOUK, choreographer Peter Leung is creating a pas de deux to the song Abdulmajid from the Heroes Symphony by Philip Glass. The symphony is based on the composition Heroes by David Bowie and Brian Eno, and refers to David Bowie’s wife, the Somali supermodel Iman Abdulmajid. The pas de deux will be danced by grand sujet Sasha Mukhamedov and principal Casey Herd.
SOUK combines popular Arabic pop, Western classical and pop music, and traditional Arabic music, poetry and dance in a unique formula. This year is the third edition of SOUK Dutch Arabic Music & Dance. The concert and dance festival will start off in De Doelen, Rotterdam, on Saturday 28 April, and go on to the Muziekgebouw Frits Philips, Eindhoven, on Thursday 3 May, and the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, on Saturday 5 May.
