The Dutch National Ballet’s Nutcracker & Mouse King is available on DVD and Blu-ray from today. The production was filmed on 30 December 2011 in The Amsterdam Music Theatre. The leading roles of Clara and the Prince are danced by star principals Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding. The performance on that day was also shown live in over eighty cinemas all over the world.
Nutcracker & Mouse King, choreographed by Toer van Schayk and Wayne Eagling, is a dynamic, exciting and typically Dutch interpretation, for children and adults alike. The Dutch National Ballet’s most successful production ever welcomed its 250,000th visitor during the most recent series of performances last December.
Besides a recording of the complete performance, the DVD also contains extras, including interviews with the choreographers and dancers, and backstage shots. Nutcracker & Mouse King is recorded in High Definition with 5.1 surround sound. It was produced and directed by Adrienne Liron and Jeff Tudor from 3 Minutes West, in co-production with the Dutch National Ballet. The company has previously collaborated with the Amsterdam production company on the recordings of the Hans van Manen Festival, Giselle, Don Quichotte and the Gala - 50 years of the Dutch National Ballet.
The DVD and Blu-ray are released under the German label Arthaus Musik and distributed in the Benelux by C&S Entertainment. They are both available from the webshop of The Amsterdam Music Theatre.
