On Friday 27 April, choreographer and set and costume designer Toer van Schayk was presented with the City of Amsterdam’s Silver medal by Lord Mayor Van der Laan.

The Silver medal is awarded to people who have made a meritorious contribution to the Amsterdam community and have helped promote Amsterdam in the wider community. The merits can be related to various areas of Amsterdam society.

At the end of May, Van Schayk will also receive the Lifetime Achievement Award 2012 on behalf of the Benois de la Danse (the ‘Oscar’ of dance), in Moscow. Dutch National Ballet soloists Casey Herd and Nadia Yanowsky will be performing at the organisation’s galas, dancing the pas de deux De Chimaera van L.A. from Van Schayk’s ballet Bartók Pas de Deux.

Principals Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding will also be making their appearance in Moscow at the galas given for the occasion of the ‘Benois’ awards. In honour of the choreographer and former artistic director of the Dutch National Ballet, Rudi van Dantzig, who passed away in January this year, they will be dancing the Black Swan pas de deux from Van Dantzig’s Swan Lake. Matthew Golding has also been nominated for ‘best dance achievement 2012’ for his role as the Prince in Nutcracker & Mouse King and is thus in the running for a ‘Benois’ award.
