Four etchings by Toer van Schayk and a text by Sjeng Scheijen form a new edition of the bibliophilic ‘Bleeker Editie 2012’.
The graphic illustrations are unique in the oeuvre of Toer van Schayk, visual artist and costume and set designer of the Dutch National Ballet’s Giselle and Swan Lake, among other productions.
At the end of May 2012, Van Schayk was awarded the Lifetime Achievement 2012 by the Benois de la Danse (the ‘Oscar’ of dance) in Moscow. The prints for The experience of dance are hand-printed on the Bleeker press, and numbered and signed in a series of 200. The text by Sjeng Scheijen (known for his biography of Serge Diaghilev) was written especially for this edition. Sjeng Scheijen was recently appointed artistic director of the cultural programme ‘Netherlands-Russia NLRF 2013’.
