Commissioned by Museum De Lakenhal in Leiden, choreographer Karin Post has put together the exhibition Parelen (Pearls), for which she has combined dance, art and natural history.New installations by artists like Rob Birza, Berend Strik and Marijke van Warmerdam enter into dialogue with new dance films by Leine Roebana, the Dutch National Ballet, Natalia Horecna and Michael Schumacher. Supplemented by art and objects from the museum’s own collection and special loans from Naturalis and other museums, De Lakenhal believes that these works form the basis of a new museum experience.

For the Dutch National Ballet, choreographer and coryphée with the company Peter Leung and film-maker Altin Kaftira have created a video that forms one scene in a series of nine videos telling the story of the pearl: The life of the Aboriginal girl Siluce, narrated in an audio tour by Pierre Bokma and written by playwright Rob de Graaf. The dancers involved in the video are: Erica Horwood, Edo Wijnen, Jared Wright, Matthew Pawlicki-Sinclair and Rémy Catalan.

The exhibition opens on Sunday 16 September and runs until 13 January 2013.
