This year, the Dutch National Ballet is once again a guest at the Dutch Dance Festival. In a single weekend, this festival presents a wide variety of Dutch dance: from urban dance to classical ballet, and from renowned choreographers to upcoming talent. On Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 October 2012, the festival will be holding its 15th edition in Maastricht.
On the evening of Saturday 6 October, the Dutch National Ballet will be performing at the Dutch Dance Celebration. The company will dance Variations for two couples, the work created last year by the company’s resident choreographer, Hans van Manen, for the occasion of the anniversary programme Present/s. Van Manen was inspired by two couples, each with their own special qualities: the first lyrical and subdued, and the second fiery and virtuoso. The Dutch Dance Celebration will also include performances by Nederlands Dans Theater and Introdans Ensemble for Youth.
The presentation of the 2012 ‘Zwanen’ Awards will take place on the same evening. Matthew Golding, principal dancer with the Dutch National Ballet, has been nominated for a ‘Zwaan’ for ‘the most impressive dance achievement’ for his role in Short Time Together, the work created in February by NDT choreographers Sol León and Paul Lightfoot for Present/s.
