The Dutch National Ballet and De Nederlandse Opera will be performing during the Royal Boat Parade in honour of the new royal couple on 30 April 2013.
On a pontoon on the water, the Dutch National Ballet will be dancing the duet Trois Gnossiennes by choreographer Hans van Manen, to the music of the same name by Erik Satie. It will be danced by principals Igone de Jongh and Casey Herd. The chorus of De Nederlandse Opera will be performing the finale from the opera L’amour des trois oranges by Sergei Prokofiev on the square in front of the EYE Film Institute.
On 1 January, De Nederlandse Opera, the Dutch National Ballet and The Amsterdam Music Theatre merged into one institute: the leading opera and ballet institute of the Netherlands, and the country’s largest performing arts organisation.

The Royal Boat Parade will set sail from the Film Institute at 19.45. During the Royal Boat Parade along the River IJ, the new royal couple will be presented with a festive cultural programme. The boat parade will end around 21.30 at the Muziekgebouw aan het IJ.

Trois Gnossiennes is an exceptionally beautiful pas de deux by Hans van Manen about submission, trust and harmony, set to tranquil piano music by Satie. Hans van Manen (1912), resident choreographer with the Dutch National Ballet, is undoubtedly the most important dance maker of the Netherlands. In 2007, he was made Commander in the Order of the Netherlands Lion.
The Dutch National Ballet was founded in 1961. With 78 dancers, it is the largest dance company in the Netherlands and occupies a leading position in the cultural life of the Netherlands and far beyond the country’s borders. The Dutch National Ballet’s home base is The Amsterdam Music Theatre. Led by artistic director Ted Brandsen, it is regarded by international dance critics as one of the three best ballet companies in the world.
