The Dutch National Ballet has received four nominations for the prestigious dance award Benois de la Danse 2013.
There are two nominations for the Dutch National Ballet in the category ‘best choreographer’. Hans van Manen, resident choreographer with the Dutch National Ballet, is nominated for his work Variations for two couples, which was premiered in February 2012 during Present/s – festival of new works. Christopher Wheeldon is nominated for his new creation Cinderella, which was premiered by the Dutch National Ballet in December 2012.
Anna Tsygankova, principal with the Dutch National Ballet, is nominated in the category ‘best female dancer’ for the title role in Cinderella.
Matthew Golding, principal with the Dutch National Ballet, is nominated in the category ‘best male dancer’ for the role of Prince Guillaume in Cinderella.
The winners will be announced on Tuesday 21 May 2013 at a gala in the Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow, Russia). Matthew Golding and Anna Tsygankova will dance a pas de deux from Cinderella. Golding and Tsygankova will also be performing alongside principals Igone de Jongh and Jozef Varga in Variations for two couples.
The Stars of the Benois gala will take place in the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in honour of the former winners of Benois de la Danse awards. Principal Anu Viheriäranta and soloist James Stout will be dancing a duet from A Million Kisses to my Skin, which was created for the Dutch National Ballet in 2000 by the British choreographer David Dawson. Dawson was awarded a Benois in 2003 for The Grey Area, which he created in 2002 for the Dutch National Ballet.
