Jurgita Dronina, principal with the Dutch National Ballet, was presented with the award for Best Duet at the twelfth edition of the International Ballet Festival Dance Open, which took place in St Petersburg (Russia) from 18 to 22 April 2013. Dronina won the award along with her dance partner Fabien Voranger, from the Semperoper Ballet in Dresden, for their performance of A Sweet Spell of Oblivion by choreographer David Dawson, whose work Overture will be presented by the Dutch National Ballet in June at its world premiere.
The award ceremony took place on the final evening of the festival, at the Gala of International Ballet Stars Dance Open on 22 April 2013, in the Oktyabrsky Concert Hall in St Petersburg. Many ballet stars performed at the gala evening, including dancers from the Bolshoi Theatre, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and English National Ballet.
Besides Jurgita Dronina, Dutch National Ballet principals Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding were also guests at the gala. They danced a duet from Cinderella by choreographer Christopher Wheeldon.
