11.04.2011 - The Dutch National Ballet is performing at two benefit evenings for Japan

The benefit event Ballet Helps Japan will take place at the Admiralspalast in Berlin on 8 May. Principal Igone de Jongh and second soloist Alexander Zhembrovskyy have been invited to represent the Dutch National Ballet. They will be dancing Hans van Manen’s <em>Trois Gnossiennes</em>. Other companies taking part include Staatsballett Berlin, the Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow), Tokyo City Ballet, Staatsballett München, the Mariinsky Theatre (St Petersburg), the Paris Opera Ballet and the Hamburg Ballet.

On Wednesday 13 April, the Japanese dancer Maiko Tsutsumi, a grand sujet with the Dutch National Ballet, performed in the ArenA, the stadium of football club Ajax. She danced a solo from Natalia Makarova’s production of La Bayadère.
Tsutusmi's performance was part of a benefit evening held by the Dutch Red Cross for the victims of the disaster in Japan.

On Friday 8 April Hotel Okura Amsterdam organised a culinary benefit evening in collaboration with Stichting Nederland helpt Japan. For the occasion, Maiko Tsutsumi and grand sujet Remi Wörtmeyer danced part of Concertante, by Hans van Manen.

And Matthew Golding, principal with the Dutch National Ballet, danced performances of La Bayadère with Tokyo Ballet, on 14 and 17 April.

10.03.2011 -  No fewer than three Dutch National Ballet principals have been nominated for a ‘Zwaan’, the most prestigious dance award in the Netherlands. The candidates are Jurgita Dronina, Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding. read more
