New Moves 2011

Introduction

Every year, the Dutch National Ballet organises a choreographic workshop entitled New Moves, in reference to the pieces presented by dance-makers of the future in this outlet for creative minds.

programme

Dancers of the Dutch National Ballet and maybe aspirant choreographers from outside the company will once again have the opportunity to produce their own work and present it in a small-scale series of performances.

The choreographers pick their own dancers to work with, and taking part in New Moves is often an ideal way for these dancers to gain experience in soloist roles and to show a different side to their talents. During the workshop, and in the run-up to it, dancers and theatre staff can also gain experience as a composer, costume or lighting designer, stage manager, stage hand, dresser or publicity assistant.

Successful choreographers such as Ted Brandsen, Krzysztof Pastor and David Dawson created their first works for the Dutch National Ballet choreographic workshop. In recent years, too, the programme has drawn attention to some exciting young talents, such as Juanjo Arqués, Daniela Cardim, Monique Duurvoort, Peter Leung and Nicolas Rapaic.
