The Dutch National Ballet gave its first performance on 16 September 1961. Now, fifty years’ on, it is one of the top international companies and a respected art institution in the Netherlands. So there is plenty of reason to dwell in the 2011/2012 season on this golden anniversary and on the company’s developments over the years. But there is also plenty of reason to look ahead, by presenting new creations that provide a refreshing look at the future of dance.
The anniversary season starts off with a festive gala, with performances from various foreign guest artists and the pupils of the National Ballet Academy – besides the full company of the Dutch National Ballet, of course. The programme will be compiled exclusively for the occasion and will include a selection of highlights from our varied repertoire. Virtuoso pas de deux and variations from the full-length classics will alternate with ensemble works danced by large casts. The gala programme will also include film clips, bringing the company’s history to life. Dress code: festive chic!
You can watch the Dutch National Ballet’s anniversary season, includig this gala, in nine Pathé Cinemas throughout the Netherlands.
