Homage to Rudi van Dantzig

Introduction

With the passing of Rudi van Dantzig on Januay 19th, the Netherlands lost a great artist, a remarkable choreographer and talented author. The Dutch National Ballet honours him with a special performance.

homage

For twentytwo years he was the artistic director of the Dutch National Ballet. He also created over fifty choreographies, that appealed to dancers from around the world, including the ballet legend Rudolf Nureyev. This performance is dedicated to the memory of Rudi van Dantzig by the Dutch National Ballet, and consists exclusively of a selection of his choreographies. Nachteiland (1955), set to music by Claude Debussy, was the first work choreographed by Rudi van Dantzig, in which he also danced (with Hannie van Leeuwen). A short film about Rudi van Dantzig will also be shown.
