No-one thinks a crutch, a hearing aid or a rollator is 'cool'. But Cantas - small, dinky cars for people with challenges - are so much fun, so practical that even able-bodied people want one. The Canta leaves pathos behind and makes everyone happy.
On Thursday 28 June the Gashouder at the Westergasfabriek Culture Park, in Amsterdam, will be the scene of a unique and striking new choreographic work: the Dutch National Canta Ballet! The Canta is the well-known ‘max. 45km-vehicle’ used mainly by people with a disability. Dancers and handicapped people are working together on the project.
The work has been choreographed by Ernst Meisner, choreographer and grand sujet with the Dutch National Ballet. The creation is part of a six-week transmedia project that revolves around the remarkable Dutch invention, the Canta. The project has been developed through a collaboration between Maartje Nevejan, Karin Spaink, Ernst Meisner, Bert Kommerij, Nijgh & Van Ditmar, the Dutch National Ballet, NTR and Viewpoint Productions.
