The 'state of ballet' – nine world premieres.

programme

Present/s is dedicated to Rudi van Dantzig.

An ambitious premiere festival, in which ten choreographers will contribute to giving us a varied taste of the present state of ballet.

In this fiftieth season, the company is giving us an anniversary gift of no fewer than nine world premieres, divided over two programmes in Present/s - festival of new works.

Over the past fifty years, the Dutch National Ballet has presented countless new works and succeeded in engaging leading choreographers from around the world. So this programme focuses on the three current resident choreographers (Hans van Manen, Krzysztof Pastor and artistic director Ted Brandsen), leading international choreographers such as Alexei Ratmansky (Don Quichotte and On the Dnieper), Christopher Wheeldon and David Dawson, former resident choreographer with the company.

Invited to contribute to this premiere festival are three choreographers who have never created a work for the company before: Paul Lightfoot and Sol León, the resident choreographers’ duo from Nederlands Dans Theater, and Ton Simons, former artistic director of Dance Works Rotterdam. A place on the programme has also been reserved for a young choreographer: second soloist Juanjo Arqués. In 2010, he created Minos for the company’s appearance at the European Cultural Days.

Accompanied by Holland Symfonia, conducted by Matthew Rowe.

Present/s 2 consists of new works by David Dawson, Lightfoot/León, Alexei Ratmansky en Ton Simons.

Present/s 1 consists of new works by Ted Brandsen, Hans van Manen, Krzysztof Pastor, Christopher Wheeldon en Juanjo Arqués.
