DUTCH NATIONAL BALLET AT THE OPENING OF THE HERMITAGE AMSTERDAM
The opening of the Hermitage Museum in Amsterdam was given added lustre by a performance by the Dutch National Ballet. To mark the occasion the Company danced a new work by Resident Choreographer Hans van Manen entitled Waterfront, set to music from Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Van Manen’s new piece was danced by Larissa Lezhnina and Alex Zhembrovskyy.

The opening on Friday 19 June was attended by a wide array of international celebrities. A stage on the Amstel was built specially for the occasion and the opening also marked the start of the Hermitage’s first exhibition entitled Russian Imperial Court.

The opening of the Hermitage Amsterdam coincided with the premiere of the Dutch National Ballet programme Les Ballets Russes 100 Years at the Amsterdam Muziektheater.
