Bij American Ballet Theatre (New York City) ging eind maart de choreografie Firebird in wereldpremière. De choreografie op muziek van Igor Stravinsky is een coproductie tussen ABT en Het Nationale Ballet. De première vond plaats in het Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, Californië (Verenigde Staten). De choreografie staat voor het seizoen 2013-2014 op het programma van Het Nationale Ballet.
Het Nationale Ballet danste de laatste jaren verschillende balletten van Alexei Ratmansky, waaronder On the Dnieper en Don Quichot. Ook voor het recente programma Present/s maakte hij een nieuw werk.
De Vuurvogel van de van oorsprong Russische choreograaf werd enthousiast onthaald. De eerste online kritieken:
